Before Sheri Salata landed her first role on the Oprah Winfrey Show, she was reeling from a significant stumbling block in her career. She was 35 and had just wrapped up an interview with a large agency in Chicago. She was confident. Her future was clear. She had it in the bag. And yet… …she didn’t.
When she was turned down for the job, Sheri was devastated, she was broke, and she was having serious doubts about her future. In her words, she had been “bumper car-ed” off course… …into something MUCH bigger. After this rejection, Sheri received a now infamous message on her answering machine inviting her to start as a freelancer at the Oprah Winfrey Show. (Where, PS, she would go on to become the Executive Producer of the show and co-president of both Harpo Studios and the Oprah Winfrey Network.) Since then, the “Beautiful No” has become one of Sheri’s guiding spiritual principles.
