My “Open The Envelope” Method

Eleanor Beaton

If you are really serious about building a 7-figure business that runs like a well-oiled cash machine, you need to maintain the twin states of being locked in and aligned.

When you are “locked in” you’re channeling a masculine-type energy to remain steadfastly focused on your goal.

When you’re “aligned” you’re harnessing your feminine energy to operate in a state of spaciousness in which your mind, body and spirit feel protected and well-nourished.

In my personal experience building and running a 7-figure business and coaching high performing women entrepreneurs to be market leaders, I have found that a woman’s ability to be both locked in AND aligned is the single most important predictor of her ability to build a business that runs as profitably and smoothly as a Rolls Royce.

It’s more important than the success of your latest sales funnel.

It will impact your ability to build a billion dollar network more than any other single factor.

It predicts your success rate in closing high value deals.

To put a superbly fine point on it…

If you want to join the top 2% of women entrepreneurs who gross a million or more in annual revenues…

AND you want to do it while nourishing the aspects of your life that matter most to you…

Staying locked in and aligned is EVERY. THANG.

So how do you do it?

I’m so glad you asked.

Eight years ago, a powerful judge advised me to check out the work of Louise Hay. I bought one of her books (I forget which one), and the part that stuck out most vividly to me is where Hay wrote that her key to being successful beyond her wildest dreams was to “keep opening the envelopes.”

What does “opening the envelopes” mean? Literally it means:

  • Dealing with matters before they become clutter
  • Paying bills
  • Cashing checks
  • Confirming appointments

Metaphorically speaking, opening the envelopes means handling the little things in order to keep up with the momentum that your life generates.

The fear of not being able to handle this momentum is why you play small when you want to be thinking big.

You know your ambition will create more envelopes to open.

And it’s the envelopes that scare you.

Not your ambition.

So what does this have to do with staying locked in and aligned?

In my life, I have found that the surest sign I’m NOT aligned and locked in is the presence of unopened envelopes. Literal ones AND metaphorical.

Put it this way. An unopened envelope = clutter.

Clutter = avoidance

Avoidance rots your confidence, destroys your focus AND inhibits your ability to exist in a state of alignment

For me, not opening envelopes is a sign that I’m avoiding handling obstacles and opportunities in my life. And the problem is that life won’t give me more until I handle what I have already created.

Here’s an example. I’m on deadline to finish a book. It’s going OK, but I need to free up more time to write.

The deadline to finish the book? That’s momentum I created for myself.

The need to free up time and headspace? That’s the envelope I need to open.

In order to stay locked in on my goal, and live in a state of emotional spaciousness, I have to “open the envelope” and deal with the things that are holding me back from doubling my writing time.

So in this specific instance, opening the envelopes so that I can stay locked in and aligned means:

  • A conversation held with my husband this morning around hiring more household help;
  • Some coaching conversations with some existing team members, along with more training for them, so that I can continue to delegate more responsibility to them
  • Hiring two new team members to pick up slack and ensure we keep growing while I take time to write
  • Scheduling more blocks of writing time into my calendar.

For me, the “opening the envelopes” method of staying aligned and locked in means acknowledging and handling the small yet significant things that create the personal infrastructure required to slay.

When I’m opening the envelopes, I know I’m in a good, high performing place.

When the envelopes pile up, it’s a signal that I’m getting overwhelmed, and I need to figure out:

  1. Where I’m getting stuck
  2. What support I need
  3. How I’ll get that support.

My question for you is this – what’s YOUR version of unopened envelopes?

How do you know when you are getting overwhelmed?

What are the signals to monitor so you’ll know when you need to get more support?

Answering these questions is key to building the infrastructure of a lucrative business.

Stay fierce,

Eleanor
