Don’t cast your pearls before swine

Eleanor Beaton

Back when you could safely do this sort of thing, my friend Carrie and I met every few months to:

  • consume a pint of beer,
  • discuss our businesses,
  • talk about celebrities,
  • and cross-reference whether or not we had seen Measha Brueggergosman (a famous opera singer who lives in our tiny town) at the grocery store.

One time Carrie shared a truth bomb she had adopted as a guiding principle: Go where you are loved.

In other words: dont waste your breath trying to appease people who dont like you anyway.

In fact, this is an age-old mantra that we first see appear in what is maybe my all-time favourite line from the Bible.

Here’s how the apostle Matthew reports Jesus said it, in his sermon on the mount:

“Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.”

There are 3 SUPER IMPORTANT marketing lessons in that sentence:

  1. Dont waste your breath serving up your message and offer to the wrong audience because…
  2. Not only will they ignore, overlook or undervalue you…
  3. Their apathy or misguided criticism will crush your confidence and SINK you.

There is no marketing tactic, launch strategy or copywriting formula that will help you if you are casting pearls before swine, dahling.

If your marketing isn’t working, the ol’ “pearls before swine” problem may well be at the heart of it. There are nuances, so I won’t know for sure without diving into your business and messaging a bit.

But until you get it right, you’re wasting a lot of time and effort.

I recommend you schedule a free 30 minute consult with us to at least start the process of figuring out if “pearls before swine” is your problem.

Here are 3 reasons I recommend you schedule this call:

  1. Within about 15 minutes of our questions, it will become BLATANTLY OBVIOUS to you whether you are casting pearls before swine.
  2. In the second 15 minutes, you’ll get equally clear on whether your MESSAGE is the problem, your OFFER is the problem, or both.
  3. We’ll also layout one or two specific things you can do to improve.

Kindly respect our time — these calls are reserved for serious, growth-oriented entrepreneurs only.
